Lando Norris of McLaren won the Monaco Grand Prix for the first time in his career after starting from pole position. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was second, with McLaren’s Oscar Piastri third.

Piastri still leads Norris in the Drivers’ Championship, and Marco Bezzecchi on an Aprilia won the British Grand Prix for his first win of the MotoGP season.

Max Verstappen’s Red Bull was the last of the leaders to pit on lap 29 of the Monaco Grand Prix, and as he rejoined the race, pole sitter Lando Norris of McLaren regained the lead, followed by Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari and Oscar Piastri’s McLaren.

A new regulation for Monaco was that drivers would need to pit twice and use two different tyre compounds in the race. The thinking was that it would make the race in the principality more exciting; however, there was not much going on amongst the leaders.

Verstappen, to his credit, was attempting to make something happen by staying out longer than the other teams anticipated. In doing so, he made sure that Norris, Leclerc, and Piastri were beginning to bunch and potentially make mistakes.

At this point, Verstappen was leading, but he was obliged to make a second stop or risk a penalty. He had until the end of the race to pit.

Verstappen left his final pit stop until the penultimate lap; he would settle for fourth place.

Norris, meanwhile, won for the first time at Monaco, as he scooped his second win of the season and sixth of his career. Leclerc was second, with Piastri third.

Piastri stays ahead of Norris in the drivers’ standings.

Drama in MotoGP

Meanwhile, there was drama in MotoGP at the British Grand Prix. Fabio Quartararo was on pole position, but Alex Marquez made the perfect start and then threw it all away in the first corner, and that appeared to be his race.

Big brother Marc Marquez took over the lead ahead of Quartararo and Francesco Bagnaia. But on the second lap, more disaster as Marquez crashed, and the race was red-flagged.

The race was under 3 laps old, and in a plot twist, there was also oil on the track. It was reset, and the Marquez brothers had a reprieve and would be eligible for the restart.

Take 2 saw Quartararo take the lead from Bagnaia, with Marc Marquez edging ahead of his brother Alex. And while Bagnaia would crash out and the Marquez brothers would slip down the field, the one constant was Quartararo, who was slowly extending his lead.

And then disaster struck, as Quartararo’s Yamaha gave out on him on lap 12, and the Aprilia of Marco Bezzecchi took control of the race. Quartararo was out of the race, Bezzecchi was now the rider to catch, having started from 11th on the grid. Bezzecchi won the fourth MotoGP race of his career, his first since 2023 and his first win for the Aprilia team.

He was also the 11th different winner at Silverstone in a row. France’s Johann Zarco was second, with Championship leader Marc Marquez third in a photo finish.

South Africa’s Brad Binder finished 14th.
