The police have beefed up their security plans for tomorrow’s Nedbank Cup final soccer match at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Chaos with the sales of tickets has brought about a situation where people who have booked online, have been notified that too many tickets have been sold and that certain people will be refunded.

Briefing the media ahead of the match, KwaZulu-Natal Deputy Police Commissioner Phumelele Makoba has warned people not to come to the stadium if they do not have a valid ticket.

She says roads leading to the stadium will be blocked off, people who are found selling tickets will be arrested.

“We have noted a number of misinformation and inflammatory messages going around via social media platforms, with some people recruiting others to stage protests on our routes and around the stadium. With others vowing to force their way into the stadium without tickets.”

Makoba has also called on people not to encourage lawlessness.

She has reminded people that it’s a crime to incite violence.

“Intelligence officers are at work identifying those individuals who are hell bent on creating chaos on the day of the match. The planning team though had to revise the operational plans considering the possible and potential threats as advised by our intelligence teams.”
