No need to enter politics to make a contribution: Motsepe

Billionaire businessman and Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Patrice Motsepe, has addressed ongoing speculation about his political ambitions.

Speaking at the release of the financial results for his company, African Rainbow Minerals, Motsepe says that he does not need to enter politics to make a contribution to South Africa.

He emphasised that his family foundation will continue its work of supporting various political parties, including the African National Congress (ANC).

Motsepe’s comments come amid speculation he might be positioning himself for a political role.

“Few years ago, the editors of the major newspapers asked me – ‘Are you at some stage going to get involved into politics?’ My answer was always: in order for me to make my contribution to the people of this country, I don’t have to get into politics.”

In March this year, Motsepe was re-elected unopposed for a second term as the CAF President.

Motsepe, who was elected for a first term in March of 2021, is leading Africa’s football governing body for another term, which will end in 2029.
