The Eastern Cape police say no arrests have been made yet following clashes that left four people dead in Addo in the Eastern Cape.
A South African national was killed at a tavern in Valencia township on Saturday, allegedly by an immigrant.
The revenge attacks began on Sunday targeting immigrants in the area.
Provincial police spokesperson Majola Nkohli says the serious and violent crime unit has taken over the investigation.

Nkohli says the situation in Addo is still tense and police visibility is still high.
He says displaced foreign nationals are receiving assistance from government officials.
“Some of the displaced foreign nationals who are still at the police station are being attended to and relevant government departments have activated emergency intervention processes in order to assist them. The NGOs are playing their part as they are providing perishable and non-perishable goods,” says Nkohli.
