Minister of Higher Education and Training
Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane has defended her decision to withdraw the appointment of board members of the Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA).
The minister was grilled by members of the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training about the reasons for withdrawing the appointments.
Nkabane says the initial appointments were done according to the law.
In my opening remarks to the Portfolio Committee, I confirmed the SETAs gazette is published. I encourage young people from all backgrounds to apply, with a strong focus on gender equity and social inclusion. pic.twitter.com/2XrV9LBi9Z

Some of concerns were related to the son of the Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources Gwede Mantashe, Buyambo.
She highlighted the National Skills Development Act and the Bill of Rights in the Constitution.
“Equality before the law and has the right to equal protection and benefits to the law. Freedom of association where everyone has the right to freedom of association as well political rights where everyone has the rights to make political choices. Against this background honourable members, it’s very important to indicate that indeed we comply with this legislative imperative in our efforts to make sure that we are indeed compliant with the law when we were processing these appointments,” says Nkabane.
Currently responding to questions from members of the Portfolio Committee. I’ve provided clarity on the decision to withdraw the SETAs Chairpersons’ appointments. I’ve committed to sharing the vetting report and master list, subject to the provisions of the POPIA Act. pic.twitter.com/1vCbPPAOWx
