Nine arrested Bultfontein police officers to apply for bail

The Bultfontein Magistrate’s Court in the Free State is expected to hear the bail application of nine police officers arrested over the weekend.

The officers face charges linked to the alleged shooting and killing of three civilians and one police officer in September 2024.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate says its investigation found that all four victims died from gunshot injuries.

Authorities also recovered 43 empty cartridge cases from the crime scene.

IPID says the arrest of multiple officers was a difficult but necessary step in the investigation.

The directorate has warned that the arrests may place a strain on limited policing resources and affect service delivery in the area.

Police management says additional resources have been deployed to ensure operations at the Bultfontein police station continue without disruption.

The matter is expected to proceed as investigations continue.
