Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
A new witness will testify before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria this morning.
This week, the Commission heard testimony from KwaZulu-Natal Acting Deputy Police Commissioner Anthony Gopaul, Witness E and the province’s Hawks head Lesetja Senona.
President Cyril Ramaphosa established the Commission following KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s allegations, including those of corruption among senior police officials.
Acting Deputy Police Commissioner in KZN, General Anthony Gopaul, testified about Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
He told the Commission that Mchunu took an interest in the murder of ANC councillor Phendukani Mabhida.
Witness E, who testified after General Gopaul, also testified about Minister Mchunu.
He says that Mchunu wanted regular updates on the Sindiso Magaqa murder investigation.
Witness E says that while Mchunu was interested in the Magaqa investigation, he did not attend any of the court cases pertaining to the matter.
