Commissioners of the Madlanga Inquiry at the inquiry’s sitting in Pretoria, 5 Dec 2025.
The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry is expected to hear evidence on Tuesday from a witness who was meant to testify last Friday.
However, his legal counsel, Hartley Ngoato, requested additional time to work through the documents, which he claimed were not provided to him in time.
Ngoato told the Commission that he needed to work through documents totalling more than 4 000 pages received from the evidence leaders.
Mr Ngoato brought two applications to the Madlanga Commission last Friday.
One application dealt with a postponement of proceedings, while the other related to his client’s testimony being heard in partial camera.
Ngoato argued that he would need six days to sufficiently consult his client and peruse the documents.
He was granted both applications; however, chairperson Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga ruled that he could not grant him the number of requested days to consult with his client.
Justice Madlanga also ruled that the new witness cannot be named.
