New witness to take stand in Meyiwa trial

A new witness is expected to be called in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial in the High Court in Pretoria on Monday. This is after Absolom Zungu the second witness that the defence had called, concluded his testimony last week.

Zungu is the father of state key witness, Constable Sizwe Zungu, who placed all five accused at a hostel in Vosloorus on the day of Meyiwa’s killing.

Five men are on trial for the murder of former Bafana Bafana captain in October 2014.

The state maintains Absolom Zungu’s statement, deposed in November 2019, changed the course of investigations, implicating accused one, Muzi Sibiya and accused two, Bongani Ntanzi.

However, Zungu maintains he never made any statement that implicated anyone, and went further accusing the court of corruption.

Constable Zungu, who previously took the stand, placed all five accused in Vosloorus on the day of Meyiwa’s killing. It is not clear who the defence will call as their third witness.
