Traffic volumes on the N3 in KwaZulu-Natal are increasing as holidaymakers head to the coast ahead of Christmas.

N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) Chief Operating Officer Thania Dhoogra says that by 11 am, nearly 1 400 vehicles per hour passed through the Tugela Toll Plaza, with just over 1 100 vehicles at Mooi River.

Traffic peaked at over 1 500 vehicles per hour earlier this week.

Dhoogra advised motorists to exercise caution, especially if the rainy weather from earlier in the week continues.

“Changing weather patterns have resulted in rainy weather conditions during the week. These may continue in the coming days and may result in difficult driving conditions due to reduced visibility and slippery roads.”

Dhoogra also urged drivers to remain extra cautious and alert when getting behind the wheel and to always be patient and courteous.

“Keep your headlights turned on for increased visibility and remember to always follow the rules of the road.”
