Northern Cape police have raised the alarm about an increase in incidents of rape, attempted murder and assault being reported across all five provincial districts in the past few weeks.
They have urged the public to remain vigilant.
Provincial police spokesperson Merapelo Pilane says people should ensure they have access to emergency contact numbers and trust their instincts.
“Ensure that you have access to emergency contact numbers. Trust your instincts and act promptly when sensing danger. Members of the public are further encouraged to report any suspicious activities or incidents of abuse and to break the silence on gender-based violence. Working together with communities remains critical in the fight against crime.”
