Police in Kimberley in the Northern Cape are investigating after a 14-year-old boy drowned in Phuthanang section this afternoon.
The boy drowned at an open ditch allegedly made by the construction company which is busy fixing pipes.
The deceased was apparently swimming with his friend during the incident.
Provincial spokesperson Cherelle Ehlers says, “It is believed that the deceased and a friend were at the Gogga pump in Phuthanang . The deceased went swimming and reportedly drowned.
His friend went to call for help when the deceased failed to resurface. Investigations are ongoing.”
