NC man arrested after attacking ex-girlfriend with knife and panga

A Northern Cape man, who allegedly attempted to hack his ex-girlfriend to death, has been arrested in Kimberley after being on the run since last month.

Gordon Adams from Plooysburg near Kimberley attacked his 20-year-old ex-girlfriend in November with an okapi knife and a panga.

Provincial Police Spokesperson says Adams is in custody.

“It is alleged that on Sunday, 23 November 2025, a 20-year-old woman was at her home on Kaldroom Farm when Adams allegedly arrived and followed her into another room and closed the door behind them. He reportedly assaulted her by hitting her in the eye with his fist, before producing an okapi knife and a panga. This was allegedly followed by a stabbing of the victim near her right eye, and hacking to her left arm. The suspect then fled the scene. A case of attempted murder was then registered at Plooysburg Police Station.”

Meanwhile, Eastern Cape police have arrested two police officers for alleged extortion outside Mthatha. It is reported the officers, aged between 24 and 30 years-old were allegedly visiting taverns in Khambi location, requesting liquor trading licences and further demanding alcohol.

Police Spokesperson, Siphokazi Mawisa, says the officials are attached to the Public Order Policing unit.

Mawisa says police received a tip-off about officers in full uniform demanding alcohol in the area, and members of the Mthatha Crime Prevention Unit were immediately activated.
