NC govt, Sol Plaatje Municipality sign MOU to settle outstanding debt


Northern Cape Public Works MEC Fufe Makatong, together with Sol Plaatje Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Martha Bartlett, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the municipality. The MOU aims to settle outstanding payments of rates, taxes and services of provincial government departments within the municipality’s jurisdiction.

Provincial Department Spokesperson Zandisile Luphahla says the deal, valued at R95 million, was facilitated by the finance department.

“The deal to be paid in seven days will provide urgent financial relief help of said Eskom debt and boost funds for service delivery and road maintenance in the municipality. MEC Makatong said that this agreement aligns with national asset management loss and strengthens cooperation between provincial and local government,” Luphahla says.
