The storm that hit the Eastern Cape has affected the schooling of more than 6 000 learners, while more than 70 schools have been damaged in the province.
Support for the learners and plans to repair the infrastructure has started.
Minister of Education, Siviwe Gwarube says resources will be mobilised from a national level.
“I also briefed the President about the matter particularly surrounding the scholars that were killed in the accident yesterday and those still missing. I do believe that due to the scale of the tragedy, we will be able to mobilise national resources to descend on this region.”
Meanwhile, the humanitarian aid organisation, Gift of the Givers, has expanded its reaction to the aftermath of the devastating winter storm that hit Eastern Cape.
Teams have been deployed to Butterworth, Nelson Mandela Bay and Mthatha to provide support to displaced families.
Water trucks are also deployed to Butterworth where the water treatment works suffered damage.
Specialised search and rescue teams from the organisation is also enroute to Mthatha to assist the police with locating missing persons.
