National Assembly to weigh Ad Hoc Committee’s third extension request

The National Assembly will on Tuesday morning consider a request for the third extension of the Ad Hoc Committee looking into concerns around national security. The committee’s original deadline was October 2025.

Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee is probing allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the justice system.

The committee has had several witnesses of high interest, like Police Minister Senzo Mchunu who has been placed on special leave, his predecessor Bheki Cele and remanded detainee and alleged drug kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

The committee has a current deadline of the 20 February. It has now approached the office of the Speaker to extend to the end of March.

This is in an effort to engage with outstanding witnesses and process its report to the House.
