New Nelson Mandela University Chancellor Naledi Pandor.
South African politician, educator and academic Naledi Pandor has been installed as the new chancellor of the Nelson Mandela University in the Eastern Cape.
Pandor, who held several high-ranking ministerial positions in government, succeeds Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi, who completed two terms as chancellor.
The Deputy Chairperson of the Council, Michelle Mbaco, says Dr Pandor’s record of activism, public service and her academic leadership resonates with the university’s identity as transformative and socially embedded.
“The university finds not only a respected national leader but also a scholar and advocate for knowledge and a steadfast leader. Today, as Nelson Mandela University installs Dr Grace Naledi Mandisa Pandor as its chancellor, we honour a lifetime of intellect and service and leadership,” says Mbaco.

“It is a welcome pleasure to return to the academy sector and to have the opportunity to once more immerse myself in the sane cooling embrace of intellectual rigour.”
