N2 road reopened following Gqeberha wildfires

The N2 road west of Gqeberha has been reopened after the authorities in the Nelson Mandela Municipality in the Eastern Cape contained a fire in the area.

The cause of the fire that started on Monday is yet to be established.

Municipal spokesperson Sithembiso Soyaya says Fire and Emergency Services teams are still on site of the fire, actively dampening the area to prevent flare-ups.

“The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Fire and Emergency Services, in collaboration with the Fire Protection Association, remain fully deployed and continue to closely monitor the situation. Residents in nearby communities are urged to remain vigilant and immediately report any signs of smoke or fire. For a fire emergency, contact the municipality’s fire and emergency services on 0415851555,” adds Soyaya.
