Police have opened a culpable homicide docket after twelve people were killed in a collision between a minibus and a bakkie on the N2 outside Dutywa in the Eastern Cape.
Authorities say three other people were injured in the crash which happened on Saturday night.
They say nine of the deceased were in the minibus and three in the bakkie.

More than 80 people have died on Eastern Cape roads since the start of the festive season.
Provincial Transport Department spokesperson Unathi Binqose says, “This is the second worst crash since the beginning of the festive season, another head on collision that has claimed a total of eleven lives.
The MEC for transport Xolile Nqatha is sending his condolences to the families of the deceased and is making a desperate plea to you and I as road users to be extra cautious and patient with one another on the roads and avoid these head-on collisions that are claiming so many lives.”
