N West woman denied bail in alleged attempted murder of daughter case

A 47-year-old woman from Majemantsho has been denied bail by the Molopo Magistrate’s Court following her arrest for the alleged attempted murder and abuse of her 14-year-old daughter.

She is accused of pouring an acidic liquid on the teenager’s face and later transporting her to hospital. The State opposed bail, citing previous threats made by the accused against the child’s life.

The court has postponed the case to 1 July for further investigation.

The woman’s identity is being withheld to protect the minor.

The prosecution argued that releasing the accused on bail would endanger the safety of the child, given that she is the biological mother and the primary alleged perpetrator.

The prosecutor also emphasized the trauma and fear the child experienced during the incident, urging the court to prioritize the victim’s protection.
