N Cape man sentenced to 15-years for nephew’s murder


A Northern Cape man has been sentenced to 15-years behind bars for killing his nephew.

Wesley Witbooi, who was 27 years-old at the time, stabbed his nephew to death following an altercation in October last year.

The Calvinia Regional Court found Witbooi guilty of murder and declared him unfit to possess a firearm.

Police spokesperson Timothy Sam says “The sentence follows the senseless killing of his nephew in Calvinia on Saturday, October 12, 2024.

The court heard that the accused and the victim had been socialising together when an argument broke out between them. During the altercation, the accused produced a knife and fatally stabbed the victim, who died at the scene from the injury.

The court found the accused guilty of murder, sentenced him to 15 years’ imprisonment and declared him unfit to possess a firearm.”
