A 35-year-old Northern Cape man from Van Wyksvlei has been sentenced to 15-years behind bars for the murder of his girlfriend.
Shamers Jonkers killed his partner on Christmas day last year, following a domestic violence incident.
Jonkers’s son who witnessed the altercation alerted neighbours who called the police.
Provincial Police Spokesperson, Molefi Shamane says, “The Van Wyksvlei SAPS attended a crime scene at Breekkerrie farm on Monday, 25 December 2023 at about 13:15, after a community member reported that a boy came to their farm and reported to them that his father had a fight with his stepmother and she was unresponsive.”
“On arrival, 35-year-old, Shamers Jonkers informed the police that he assaulted his girlfriend, and he was subsequently arrested. The Carnarvon Regional Court convicted and sentenced the accused to 15 years imprisonment.”
