Muzi Sibiya back on witness stand in Meyiwa murder trial

Accused number one in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Muzi Sibiya, is expected back on the witness stand at the High Court in Pretoria on Monday.

Sunday marked 11 years since the Bafana Bafana captain was shot dead at the parental home of his then girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg.

Sibiya, one of the five men on trial, has distanced himself from the 2014 contract killing alleged to have been ordered by singer Kelly Khumalo.

On Friday, state prosecutor George Baloyi went through a confession statement allegedly made by Sibiya, following his arrest in May 2020.

State Prosecutor George Baloyi read out the statement, which alleges that Khumalo hired hitmen to assassinate the father of one of her children.

According to the statement, the Buthelezi brothers, Marco and Makhimba, who are not part of the current accused, carried out the hit with Sibiya.

However, Sibiya denies knowing about the statement taken by Colonel Nhlanganyelwa Mbotho and denies the contract killing.

The state also alleges they were paid R100 000 to carry out the job.
