The case against an Ethiopian national arrested after 12 teenagers were rescued in Mulbarton, south of Johannesburg, this week, has been postponed to Friday.
This is in order to secure an Aramaic language interpreter.
The 47-year-old appeared in the Booysens Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg Thursday morning, facing 12 counts of kidnapping and one of failing to stop his vehicle when instructed by police.
The 12 teenagers were found walking in Mulbarton on Tuesday.
Magistrate Shumani Vele says the accused needs to fully understand the charges he is facing hence the postponement for the interpreter.
“Sir as you seem not to understand me tomorrow, we will have an Amharic interpreter here in court so I’m going to remand you in custody until tomorrow for an interpreter to be present so that I can explain to you your rights.”
