Mtimka says ANC’s credibility problem runs deeper than court cases

Political analyst, Dr. Ongama Mtimka says the African National Congress (ANC) seems to be facing a credibility crisis. This after some party members in Limpopo and the Eastern Cape took the party to court accusing it of flawed processes ahead of the elective conferences in the two provinces.

In Limpopo, the case was dismissed and the conference proceeded as planned, with the election of a new leadership. However, in the Eastern Cape, the High Court issued an interim order to stop the conference.

Dr Mtimka says the African National Congress (ANC) is failing to practice democratic processes.

“For any democratic system, there are a few vital things. One, perception that among the participants that the processes are fair and free, and also the processes have got integrity. That’s what the ANC democratic processes are failing at. They are facing a credibility crisis in terms of which the participants inside are not convinced that the processes are happening in a neutral and a free way.”

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to deliver the closing address at the 11th ANC Limpopo elective conference in Polokwane on Sunday afternoon.
