Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni will be join by senior management of SAPS and other law enforcement agencies as he leads the weekday Operation Shanela in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg District.
Gauteng Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, has expressed concern over police officers assisting criminals in carrying out crimes.
This follows the arrest of four suspects, including two South African Police Service (SAPS) members, in connection with truck hijackings and carjackings in Kempton Park on Thursday. The officers are accused of helping criminals hijack a G4S security vehicle.
Speaking during Operation Shanela in Diepsloot, Johannesburg, Mthombeni issued a warning to law enforcement officers involved in criminal activities.
“I will say we are hard at work in terms of precisely dealing with our own police officials. I’m just giving a strong warning, anyone who works against us, because this is an inside track, will see the might of the law. We will arrest them,” he said.
Mthombeni added that within the past three days, seven police officers had been arrested, bringing the total, including traffic officers, to nearly ten. He described the situation as a serious concern.
