Msimang calls for independent inquiry into criminal justice system

The African National Congress (ANC) veteran Mavuso Msimang says the best way to deal with the allegations of corruption within the criminal justice system is to establish an independent inquiry as soon as possible.
This after the KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, accused Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and several senior police officers of being corrupt and interfering in police operations.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation on Sunday night regarding these allegations.

Msimang says if there is interference, all parties involved should be suspended.
“With the kind of confusion, mess that it is in the police force right now, I think the best thing would be to get an independent investigation to deal with this that is trusted. A credible investigator who is professional and has integrity to handle this matter. I think leaving it in the hands of the police would create a lot of suspicion.”
