Mpumalanga Tourism Agency accused of poor maintenance to tourist attractions

The Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism in Mpumalanga has accused the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency of failing to maintain key tourist attractions.

Chamber spokesperson Oupa Pilane says most of the attractions on the ‘panorama route’ do not have proper ablution facilities.

Pilane also raised concerns that some of the attractions are not properly cleaned and refuse is not removed on time.

“Every year, they have a budget that is allocated to those sites that are not maintained. So, our interest as the tourism sector is to begin to investigate what is happening to that money.

We know that there’s been over R3.8 million for fixing water in toilets. That was our data about a year or so ago. And these toilets are not functional and yet money has been spent.”
