Mpumalanga police hunt for two armed men following church robbery

Mpumalanga police have launched a manhunt for two armed men who attacked church congregants and robbed them of their belongings in Calcutta.

It is alleged that the suspects who were wearing balaclavas, pounced on the church members during a service and robbed them of their wallets, handbags, cell phones, car keys and an undisclosed amount of cash belonging to the church.

The suspects reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle belonging to one of the church members.

Provincial police spokesperson Donald Mdhluli says the vehicle was later found abandoned in Marite, Bushbuckridge.

“When checking the vehicle, they found some handbags still there and car keys. But those items, the cell phones and cash, were not found.”

Mdhluli adds: “No one was harmed at the church during the incident and police are in pursuit of the suspects. So, we urge anyone with information that may assist in apprehending the suspects to call our crime stop number 08600 10111. People can send information via my SAPS App.”
