Mpumalanga govt strengthens measures to ensure safety of tourists

The Mpumalanga government says it has strengthened safety measures to ensure the safety of tourists. It has officially launched the Festive Season Tourism Campaign.

The aim is to promote the sector, which contributes considerably to the province’s economy.

The Economic Development and Tourism MEC Jesta Sidell says the province is a tourist destination of choice. She says international tourists increased by 19.3 per cent in April.

Sidell also adds that the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency is working hard to improve attraction sites.

“But key to the launch also is to ensure that our tourists are very safe in the province of Mpumalanga, I think it would be very much important of me to do what we do; have a tourism strategy which also the private sector has tapped into in terms of making the inputs in as far how we can keep everyone that is visiting our beautiful province safe during this festive season, the issue around the infrastructure, the age of the infrastructure because we are talking of a very old infrastructure, remains a challenge which as the provincial government we are responding to that,” says Sidell.
