Four people have been killed in an accident between a bakkie and a car on the R38 between Kaapmuiden and Louws Creek near Barbeton in Mpumalanga.

Provincial transport authorities say all the deceased were in the car when the crash happened last night.

They say they did not find the occupants of the bakkie at the scene of the crash.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.

Meanwhile, three people have died following a head-on collision on the R23 between Val and Balfour.  The crash involved a light delivery vehicle and a sedan.

The dead include a female driver in the sedan and two males from the light delivery vehicle.

Community Safety spokesperson Moeti Mmusi says the victims were burnt beyond recognition. The cause of the crash is unknown at this stage.
