MPs must probe Mchunu’s alleged links to crime: Investigator

Specialised investigator, Mike Bolhuis, says Members of Parliament must thoroughly probe the embattled Police Minister Senzo Mchunu’s alleged links to organised crime.

Members of Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee will cross-examine Mchunu when he appears before them on Tuesday.

When he appeared before the committee last week, he defended his decision to issue a directive to disband the KwaZulu-Natal Political Killings Task Team.

Bolhuis says government officials and business people have had links to criminal syndicates for a long time.

“Clear links have already been established for years between senior police officials, low-ranking police officials, businessmen, gangsters, and government officials as well as municipality officials, between Kat Matlala and other similar or equal gangsters and drug cartels. This is not new, this has been going on for years and years and has grown to a monster. It’s grown to this size because there was no zero tolerance before. It was identified many a times, many a time exposed.”
