National Health Insurance (NHI) Colloquium at the Progressive Business Forum (PBF) and Progressive Citizens Forum (PCF) led by Minister Aaron Motsoaledi with Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma in attendance
Health Minister Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi says he will not be deterred by court cases seeking to halt the implementation of the National Health Insurance in its current form.
The minister was speaking during a colloquium held in Hyde Park, Johannesburg by the Progressive Business Forum aimed at unpacking the NHI Act and the future of healthcare in the country.
The department is currently facing five court battles with the minister saying three more are expected.

The Act was signed into law a year ago but not without criticism and litigation.
More than R9 million later in legal costs, the health minister says they will continue to defend it.
Motsoaledi says each of the court challenges only mention their areas of interest.
“One of them it says, if this happens, I’m going to do so much money. It’s written black and white in one of the affidavits and because we are not yet in court, I’ll spare you the details, but there is somewhere where they are saying, if NHI goes on, some doctors, some specialists, are going to lose an income of R20 million per annum, so should I say yes, I’m sorry.”
