A road has been barricaded with rocks and burning tyres during a service delivery protest.
The Mbashe Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape has urged motorists to drive with caution on the N2 through Dutywa.
A service delivery protest blocked traffic for most of the morning. Residents of informal settlements are alleged to be demanding permanent housing.
The municipality mayor Samkelo Janda says they will continue to engage with the residents. “I want to caution our motorists that they must drive carefully as they pass through the town because the town is open. So, the traffic is flowing, but at a very slow pace. And it is under close monitoring by the South African Police Services and also through their unit, which is called the public order.”
