Gauteng Traffic Police are urging motorists to stay alert and drive safely ahead of the National Prayer Day at FNB Stadium on Sunday.
Heavy traffic is expected on major routes, including the N1 and all roads around the stadium. Motorists are encouraged to keep to the speed limit – especially when it’s raining and maintain a safe following distance.
More than a 120 000 people from all walks of life, and several faith-based and religious organisations, are expected to unite in prayer on Sunday.
The CEO of the Motsepe Foundation, Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe says the day is aimed at fostering stronger unity and social cohesion in a bid to collectively find solutions for the many social ills in South Africa.
She says the prayer gathering will focus on several burning societal issues.
The Motsepe Foundation Chairperson Patrice Motsepe conducted final checks ahead of the big event.
It will be the 5th instalment of the mass prayer gathering since 2017.

Gauteng Traffic Police Sello Maremane says law enforcement will be out in full force across the province.
“The following routes are likely to experience heavy traffic. N1 Polokwane to Johannesburg, N3 Durban to Johannesburg, N4 eMalahleni to Joburg, N1 Bloem, N12 Potchefstroom and all routes around the FNB stadium. Motorists are urged to observe the following safety guidelines: Drive within the prescribed speed limits, as roads may be wet due to heavy rainfall. Switch on headlights when it’s raining to enhance visibility and lastly, drivers must always maintain a safe following distance.”
