Some motorists in Kimberley say they are unhappy with the fuel levy increase announced in the budget and which is expected to be effective from next month.
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana re-tabled the 2025 National Budget after two earlier failed attempts.
The Minister says he did not increase the fuel levy in the past three years but now has no choice.
The levy will increase on a litre for petrol by 16 cents and for diesel by 15 cents.
“I’m very much worried now that there will be an increase of petrol once more. Because we are really suffocating as a result of increments in petrol. We can hardly achieve what we intend to achieve as consumer goods have increased sharply.”
“This thing of government increasing petrol is hurting our pockets. Because always petrol goes up but our salaries never increase. So, the government should at least consider us when they increase the petrol. They must speak to companies so that salaries also increase,” adds another motorist.”
