The City of Cape Town has confirmed that a motorist caught on camera littering in an incident that went viral on social media has come forward and paid his fine.
City Law enforcement spokesperson Wayne Dyason says the incident came to light earlier this week after a video circulated online showing the motorist throwing litter from his vehicle while at an intersection.
Another motorist was seen confronting him and tossing the litter back into his car.
Dyason says the city then launched an appeal on social media to help identify the driver, which led to him coming forward voluntarily.
“We can confirm that he came forward on his own accord and has paid the admission of guilt fine of R500 in terms of the City’s Integrated Waste Management By-Law. The City thanks the motorist for doing the right thing and reminds the public to please refrain from littering or any other by-law transgressions. These might seem like minor infractions, but the law is the law and applies to all, without fear or favor,” says Dyason.
