Springbok lock Franco Mostert has been cleared to be selected for Saturday’s test match against Ireland in Dublin. The red card he received against Italy in Turin on Saturday has been rescinded, following a lengthy disciplinary process that started on Tuesday.
It will also be expunged from Mostert’s disciplinary record.
The ruling that the incident did not meet the Red Card threshold exposes the glaring inconsistencies in applying the laws regarding head contact.
The other Springbok lock, Lood de Jager, who was red-carded for a similar offense against France in Paris on the 8th of November and subsequently suspended for four weeks, will have his appeal hearing today.
Springbok lock Franco Mostert will not be suspended after an independent disciplinary panel ruled that he was incorrectly sent off for a dangerous tackle against Italy.#SABCSportRugby
