Mossel Bay vegetation fire threatens homes in Aalwyndaal


The Mossel Bay Municipality says properties are in danger following a vegetation fire in Aalwyndaal in Mossel Bay in the Western Cape.

Aerial water bombing is underway. They are being assisted by the Mossel Bay Fire and Rescue, the Garden Route District Municipality’s firefighting services as well as volunteers.

The Mossel Bay Municipality has urged the public to avoid the area.

Meanwhile, traffic authorities have asked motorists on the N2 near Dana Bay in Mossel Bay to also drive with caution due to smoke from another vegetation fire.

The Mossel Bay Municipality in the Western Cape has urged the public to remain calm and follow instructions from emergency personnel as evacuations take place in Aalwyndal due to a vegetation fire that has spread to the residential area.

The evacuation notice are for residents of Island View and Vakansieplaas, while road closures remain in place on Rooikat Street and Skilpad Street.

The municipality says several structures and vehicles have been confirmed alight, while fire crews work to bring the blaze under control.

A Joint Operations Centre has been activated to coordinate firefighting and evacuation efforts.
