Morero acknowledges scale of water crisis in Joburg

City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor Dada Morero has acknowledged the scale of the ongoing water crisis in the city. Morero says the city is working to stabilise the network through a multifaceted water demand management programme.

He briefed the media at the newly constructed Brixton Reservoir on Wednesday following increasing reports of prolonged water outages affecting several areas across the city.

He says the restoration process remains complex due to the technical nature of the system.

“Once the technicians give us a thumbs up, we will be able to communicate because with water it is very difficult to say exactly on this day because you need to allow reservoirs to fill up and also the high and low-lying areas play a part. We are also focusing on residents that have been without water for longer periods.”
