Political analyst Sandile Swana says Lucky Montana’s resignation as uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) member of Parliament (MP) points to deeper instability inside the party.
MKP announced Montana’s resignation from the National Assembly on Monday afternoon.
Swana argues that the organisation’s decision to bring in members facing various pending legal matters, including civil and criminal cases, has created ongoing internal strain to the party.
He says this trend is now catching up with some MPs, who may feel overwhelmed by their legal troubles.
Swana adds that while details around his resignation remain unclear, he faces significant legal challenges.
He says, “It’s a sign of the continuing crisis within MK, which comes out of the situation where they successfully admit all recruited people who have pending legal matters of civil cases, others have criminal cases that are pending or ongoing. So I think that, that is a general pattern. So some of them, at one point or another maybe overwhelmed by the surrounding legal problems and have to resign their positions. We have not been given specifics about Montana, but he does have significant legal problems himself.”
