Ethiopia’s Mohamed Esa has won the Cape Town Marathon in two hours-four minutes-55 seconds.
Esa obliterated the previous course record of two hours-eight minutes- 16 seconds that Ethiopia’s Abdisa Tola had set in 2024.
Esa’s compatriot Yihunilign Adane finished second while Kenyan Kalipus Lomwai came third.
Marathon legend, Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya finished 16th in his first-ever race in Africa.
The race marked the two-time Olympic champion’s first competitive marathon in over six months and his first-ever official marathon on the African continent.
The 41-year-old is aiming to run a marathon on all seven continents over the next two years.
