Mogale City Mayor on Gauteng’s West Rand, Lucky Sele has pledged to build 15,000 new houses including RDP units through the Leratong Nodal Development.
The first phase is expected to be complete by October 2026.
This was one of the key outcomes at the State of the City Address in Krugersdorp.
Mayor Sele says proper housing should not be seen as ideal of luxury for some, but a democratic right that should be enjoyed by all citizens.
“We have bolstered all those projects that have been in place for the past 20 years to ensure that we bring them to reality, so that the program of decent housing arrives to our destitute community members who have been waiting since 1996. 48,000 of them have been on the waiting list to be afforded decent housing at Mogale City Local Municipality, because it’s not only the city for the rich that regards its poor to be mushrooming somewhere in informal settlement. They must live in the dream that we are planning of the Urban City Centre being close to social amenities,” says Sele.
