Mogalakwena Municipality denounces corruption claims

The Mogalakwena Local Municipality in Limpopo says its municipal manager has distanced himself from social media posts detailing alleged corruption implicating Premier Phophi Ramathuba and MEC for Cooperative Governance, Basikopo Makamu.

Social media accounts under the name of the municipal manager, Morris Maluleka, state that he made corrupt transactions of millions of rands to companies linked to Ramathuba and Makamu.

Mogalakwena Mayor Ngoako Tauetsoala has condemned the posts, calling them faceless cyberbullying, unfounded and fake.

Tauetsoala says Maluleka does not have a Facebook account.

“We are distancing ourselves from that statement also to confirm that I personally spoke to the municipal manager, Ntate Morris Maluleka. Morris Maluleka does not have a Facebook account to start with. There has been circulation of Facebook and TikTok and lot of things about Maluleka as the municipal manager.”

Meanwhile, the Limpopo provincial government says the allegations against the premier are not only unfounded but are part of a deliberate smear campaign.

Tauetsoala says the matter has been escalated to law enforcement agencies for investigation.

“We have been all out as the municipality, engaging with the law enforcement agency, we have opened the case and this allegations started very long time ago, saying a lot of lies about the Municipal Manager, myself, the Premier and also the MEC for the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs.”
