Mogae family thanks Botswana for support after hospitalisation

The family of the former president of Botswana, Festus Mogae, says they are grateful for the outpouring of love from the citizens of that country, following the hospitalisation of the former statesman.

The government of Botswana released a statement on Tuesday, indicating that Mogae is being treated at a hospital in the capital, Gaborone.

The 86-year-old was the third president of Botswana, who took over from Sir Ketumile Masire from 1998 to 2008.

Senior Private Secretary in the office of the former president, Rhee Hetanang, has appealed to the media and the public to afford the family privacy and dignity during this time.

“This is a deeply personal and sensitive time for the former president and family, and we respectfully appeal to the media and the public to uphold the family’s right to privacy and dignity. As a respected national figure, the former president remains in the prayers and thoughts of many, and we appreciate the outpouring of goodwill and support from the public.”
