MKP to conduct inquiry into suspended member Hlophe

The Umkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) says it has appointed a legal to team to conduct an inquiry into its suspended Parliamentary leader, Dr John Hlophe.

This follows a meeting between party leader Jacob Zuma the national officials as well as the Parliamentary caucus.

The party has also announced that Des van Rooyen will be the acting Parliamentary leader while Colleen Makhubele will remain as the caucus Chief Whip.

MKP spokesperson Sipho Tyira says the party will not tolerate unilateral changes in the caucus that undermine organisational coherence.

“The President reiterates the precautionary suspension of Dr John Hlophe as Deputy President of the party leader pending the outcome of a formal inquiry. A legal team has been appointed to preside over this process and upon conclusion that legal team will then present a detailed report to his excellency the President and the national officials.”

Tyria adds, “It’s important to state Dr Hlophe remains a MP and a committed member of the MK Party. And as a result of these deliberations held by the national officials the President has approved the appointment of comrade Des Van Rooyen as acting party leader effective immediately in Parliament to continuity and effective leadership. Comrade Colleen Makhubele continues in her duty and her role as the Chief Whip of caucus.”
