MKP to challenge Cachalia’s appointment at ConCourt

The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party says it will directly approach the Constitutional Court to challenge the appointment of Firoz Cachalia as the acting Minister of Police.

The party says President Cyril Ramaphosa violated the Constitution by appointing Cachalia as the acting Police Minister.

It says the Constitution does not allow for two ministers to serve under any portfolio.

The party also says it rejects the establishment of a commission of inquiry to probe serious security concerns, which, among others, implicated Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.

It says the nature and gravity of these allegations cannot be solved by a commission.

The party was briefing the media in Parliament.

“One of the fundamental problems we have with the commission of inquiry is the following it’s a Judicial Commission of Inquiry, it’s going to be headed by a judge, we and there are serious allegations of corruption in the judiciary which have been made by Lt General Mkhwanazi. In other words, the judiciary is called upon to investigate itself, what are the chances that the judge will admit to corruption in the judiciary?” says Dr John Hlophe, MKP Parliamentary leader.
