The Mkhonto weSeziwe Party (MKP) in Parliament wants the Minister of Finance, Enoch Godongwana, to be censured over the alleged mishandling of the Budget process for 2025/26.
Godongwana tabled the national budget for the third time last month, with the MKP and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) expressing their disagreement with the increase in the general fuel levy.
MKP Member of Parliament, Mzwanele Manyi, has tabled a motion in the National Assembly for a debate on censuring the tabling of the Budget.
“These events constitute a failure of leadership, a violation of constitutional principles and a breach of public confidence. Finally, the house should resolve to censure the Minister of Finance, Minister Godongwana for his mishandling of the Budget process. And we call on this house to affirm its commitment to transparent oversight that pro-poor and to end this unaccountable rule,” says Manyi.
Meanwhile, Parliament is this week expected to consider the 2025 Fiscal Framework and Revenue Proposals.
