MKP says ready for ConCourt case regarding Ramaphosa’s Mchunu decision

uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) Chief Whip, Colleen Makhubele says they are prepared for their appearance at the Constitutional Court, on Wednesday.

The apex court will hear the party’s urgent application to have President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to place Police Minister Senzo Mchunu on a leave declared invalid and irrational. Firoz Cachalia was appointed acting minister.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi had earlier claimed that Mchunu had connections with people linked to organised crime, among other things.

Makhubele says Ramaphosa should have fired Mchunu because of the seriousness of the allegations.

“We’ve been ready for this matter and we are glad that it’s sitting. We have actually advanced our reasons that constitutionally, the President’s decision is flawed. He should have fired Senzo Mchunu. We cannot have three Ministers as a country and three Police Ministers and not know what they are doing,” says Makhubele.

She says Mchunu has serious allegations against him that he must answer to.

“He should have been fired and then the President can appoint a new Minister in his place. The appointment of Cachalia is also flawed so we want the President to do the right thing and be decisive,” adds Makhubele.
