Mkhwanazi’s links to Medicare 24 boss takes centre stage in Parly

Suspended Ekurhuleni Deputy Police Chief Commissioner, Julius Mkhwanazi’s relationship with the owner of the Medicare 24, Mike van Wyk has taken centre stage during Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee hearing.

This is a company where attempted murder accused Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala was a director.

Commissioner Mkhwanazi has further testified that van Wyk offered to work with the City of Ekurhuleni to assist Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) officers when injured in the line of duty.

He further states that van Wyk’s proposal included the assistance of EMPD officers in running blood work for drunken drivers.

“He is having a program, a plan of working with the EMPD in terms of assisting officers with an effective and efficient response when they are involved in incidents and accidents; in terms of assisting them when they get injured or get shot while they are in the line of duty. Another program was that they wanted to work with us in terms of assisting in terms of our drinking and driving,” explains Mkhwanazi.
